Before Crisis Coming to the Nokia N-Gage

In a surprise move, Square Enix has announced that Nokia has secured the North American rights to Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII for future release on the N-Gage handheld. The N-Gage, of course, is a combination gaming system and mobile phone that has been the victim of bad press and lackluster sales. However, Before Crisis, which has previously been rumored as a potential Nintendo DS game, has the potential of becoming the NGage's first true "killer app" which will revive this platform to new heights.

Will Before Crisis lead to a general acceptance for the N-Gage, and perhaps even more important, will Final Fantasy VII fans be willing to shell out for a platform previously best known for "sidetalkin'"? Read the press release and judge for yourself.

A Little Spring Cleaning

For tonight's update, I've revised the layout of the main Strategy page a little, and have completely revamped the Materia guides. These latter pages now feature more details about abilities, AP levels, locations, and more! I hope you find the new Strategy main page a little easier to navigate, and the revised Materia guides useful.

In addition, I've been making some updates and minor tweaks to a few pages. These include a listing for current IRC channel op Reno on the Staff page, and a new Top Recommendation under Links.

More on FFVII Snowboarding

Square Enix issued a press release today stating that North American mobile carrier Verizon will offer Final Fantasy VII Snowboarding through their "V Cast" service. In addition to FFVII Snowboarding, a game based on Square Enix's Musashi franchise will also be available, starting tomorrow. Thanks goes to Redneck4Hire on the Forums for the tip!

On another note, 1UP.com has revised their Advent Children release date again, this time placing it for August 14th of this year (see the AC FAQ for details). However, a quick search of GameSpot and IGN still produced release dates marked "TBA". For the time being, we're chalking up 1UP.com's posted date as mere speculation, and we advise our visitors not to take this date too seriously until an official announcement is made.

Snowboarding On the Go

GameSpot has posted information about a new mobile game Square Enix is developing based on the snowboarding minigame from Final Fantasy VII. Also featured are ten screenshots of this new game, which seems to be quite faithful to the original (well, save for the cacti!). Thanks to Seb for the info!
