Ghost Stories
A Brief Synopsis of Key Events in Loveless
Elena Terry
A native of Kalm and a technician working in Scarlet's division, Elena became a Turk after Reno sustained injuries at the Sector Seven Pillar. Despite Tseng's reservations about having her on the team—as "fourth Turks" are bad omens—she remained a Turk even after Reno returned to full-time duty. Although she harbored an incredible admiration for Tseng (which she readily mistook for love), due to a miscommunication and her own wavering feelings, she ended up spending a night with her neighbor Reeve after Tseng's death. Elena later wound up with Rude, and after the fall of Shinra, were ordered by Reeve to take Marlene and Elmyra to Kalm. It is from there that she watched Meteor descend upon Midgar...

Yoshiro "Tseng" Kawaguchi
A former member of the experimental S-Class division of SOLIDER who briefly served as Sephiroth's assistant during the Wutai War, Tseng chose to remain in the Turks, and later become its leader, solely due to the wishes of his deceased father, a Wutaiese immigrant who had himself risen to the rank of Head Turk... and was killed by Rufus during the Corel riots. This tragedy strained the already tense relationship between Tseng, who took on his father's first name, and his former lover Rufus, and he kept what he knew about the incident to himself for a long time. Despite his close relationships to his comrades Reno and Rude, not to mention his best friend Aeris, whom he had sheltered from Hojo's clutches ever since they were children, Tseng finally revealed what he knows about his father's murder to Reeve, in whom Rufus had a romantic interest. Tseng died at the hands of Sephiroth in the Temple of the Ancients, and in the Lifestream, he encountered old friends and acquaintences...

Rufus T. Shinra
The Vice President of the Shinra Electric Power Company, Rufus unexpectedly became President after his father is apparently killed by Sephiroth. Rufus began following Sephiroth, in hopes of finding the Promised Land, while pursuing his latest personal conquest, Reeve. However, he failed to stop either Cloud or Sephiroth, and became furious upon discovering that not only has Reeve turned traitor, but had also learned the truth behind the elder Tseng's death. In the midst of all this chaos, Rufus stood still in his office as Diamond Weapon's giant fireball engulfed him...

Reno Cerise
A Cosmo Canyon native and former scientist who had gone through a traumatic experience during the Wutai War, Reno housed within him the might of Bahamut-ZERO, with whom he had merged in a process derived from Hojo's Valentine experiments. He had long harbored strong feelings of love toward his best friend Reeve, even though the latter was married; these feelings came to a head during an ill-fated trip to the Gold Saucer. After an attempt to rid himself of ZERO in Cosmo Canyon, and Tseng's funeral in Junon, Reno became infuriated by Reeve's tryst with Elena. Reeve decided they couldn't be friends any more, and they silently went their separate ways.

After Meteor's summoning, Reno was pursued by Rufus as the ultimate solution to taking care of Sephiroth; as the person with the second-highest kill count during the Wutai War, Reno and his Bahamut-ZERO side became prized by the President. Reno learned that at least some traces of ZERO still resided within him, and he attempted to come up with an alternate solution to the Sephiroth dilemma without the President's knowledge. Later, Elena learned that Reeve was the controller of Cait Sith, who had betrayed the Shinra, and shared this information with Reno. As Reno searched Reeve's apartment for evidence, the latter arrived and spoke his true feelings to the former, revealing Reno's final separation from ZERO in the process. After the fall of Shinra, they planned one last night together in the Upper City at their favorite meeting spot...

Rude Powers
Born in Nibelheim, raised in the shadow of Junon, Rude was trained in the martial arts by the monk Zangan and worked in Shinra's Urban Development division under Reeve's predecessor prior to becoming a Turk. As a childhood friend of Tifa's, he spent much of his time seeking to unveil the truth behind the "Nibelheim Incident"; several of these truths unraveled before him as he traveled with Reno and Elena on a mission to subdue Sephiroth. Rude harbored romantic feelings for Elena, but due to his shyness, had trouble sharing these feelings with her; furthermore, an attempt by Reno and Tseng to get them together was botched horribly, resulting in Elena's sleeping with Reeve. They later wound up together on their own, and witnessed Meteor's landing from the streets of Kalm...

Zack Winfield
Killed by Shinra MPs during the last leg of his journey to Midgar, Zack was brought back to life by Jenova, whose cells still lived within his body. Guided by her will, Zack traveled to the Shinra Building where he freed Jenova's headless corpse and was given the body of Sephiroth. With Jenova melded with his being and the spirit of the Masamune in hand, this first Sephiroth clone began his journey, killing anyone who got in his path. However, obstacles existed in the form of Sephiroth himself and his own chosen one, Cloud Strife.

Devastated after being forced to murder his old girlfriend Aeris, Zack did his best to reduce Jenova's progress to a crawl. In the Whirlwind Maze, Jenova finally killed Zack and latched on to another clone. From here, Zack passed on into the Lifestream, where he met Tseng and began a new journey...

Forrest Reeves
The only son of Gongaga merchants, Reeve, like his wife Scarlet, was one of the top officials at the Shinra Electric Power Company. As the chair of Urban Development, he oversaw the ongoing construction of Midgar and was able to enact his own pet project, the Gold Saucer. It was at the Saucer that he spent a fateful weekend with his closest friend Reno, after learning that Scarlet had been cheating on him with Heidegger. While there, Reno revealed his true feelings, causing Reeve to lash out at him violently, nearly killing him. The shock of this accident, along with his moral sense of obligation to his wife, led to a more strained relationship with Reno.

While investigating the wreckage of Midgar's Reactor #1, Tseng saved Reeve's life; Reeve later repaid his debt by agreeing to become the controller of Cait Sith and spy on Cloud, Aeris, and their friends. Despite his hatred of AVALANCHE, Reeve warmed up to the party's cause, a condition which caused some concern to Tseng, who gave him some critical information about both his and Reno's pasts. After Aeris' death, Reeve devoted himself fully to Cloud's cause. As a preventive measure, he dissolved his friendship with Reno—helped along by his one-night-stand with Elena—and romantically pursued Rufus in an attempt to use the President to his advantage. However, this did not prevent either the Turks or Rufus from learning the truth about Reeve's traitorous ways. Eventually, Reeve managed to get the best of Rufus and make up with Reno (revealing the truth about his feelings in the process). After an eye-opening journey through Midgar's slums, Reeve promised to join Reno for one last night on the Upper Plate...
